Why Colin Trevorrow Returning For Jurassic World 3 Is A Good Thing, According To The Screenwriter

We are still a few months away from the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but there have already been some other developments in the world of Jurassic World 3. Specifically, original Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow will take the baton back from A Monster Calls' J.A. Bayona to round out the third installment in the new trilogy. CinemaBlend recently had a chance to talk about Jurassic World 3 with screenwriter Emily Carmichael during an interview about her work on Pacific Rim Uprising, and she admitted that Trevorrow's presence on the project has helped create a better sense of cohesion between the writer and the director. Carmichael elaborated:

It's so great and it's so exciting, and it means that we have a more integrated process because I'm writing the movie with Colin and I'm writing the movie that he is excited to direct, so we don't lose work. We don't have the situation where the writer builds a bunch of stuff that the director doesn't want.

If nothing else, it sounds like the fact that Colin Trevorrow is back onboard for the third installment of the Jurassic World timeline will help streamline the process. In many cases, a screenwriter has to write a movie without the presence of a director on a project, which means the story would be subject to change as soon as a filmmaker signed on. However, with Colin Trevorrow actually working alongside Carmichael on Jurassic World 3, they can collaborate and create something that suits their respective tastes on the first pass. They have a more cohesive system in place, which means they can work more on perfecting the story.

Of course, Emily Carmichael and Colin Trevorrow still have to contend with the fact that the franchise is presently out of their hands. J.A. Bayona stepped in for Colin Trevorrow to direct Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and the writer-director duo will need to work within the framework that Bayona hands them. Having said that, elsewhere in Carmichael's interview with CinemaBlend, she made sure to note that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom seems to be in good hands. Admitting that she has seen the upcoming Jurassic World sequel, Carmichael said:

I have seen Fallen Kingdom. It's amazing. I'm very, very excited for people to see it...The progression of the fourth, fifth and sixth films is awesome.

We will see how the vision of Emily Carmichael coalesces with the vision of Colin Trevorrow when Jurassic World 3 debuts in theaters on June 11, 2021. Until then, make sure to catch Pacific Rim Uprising (which is in theaters right now), and watch out for the release of J.A. Bayona's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom this summer when it premieres on the big screen on June 22.

"Jurassic World" fans now know that there is a sequel coming. And they all know that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning for "Jurassic World 2" which is set to bow in theaters in June 2018. Story details about the upcoming sequel came through the film's screenwriter Colin Trevorrow.
